Metaverse King Sejong Institute (https://zep.us/@ksif) has officially launched, providing a platform for individuals to speak and learn Korean anytime, anywhere. KSIF commemorated the launch on February 7 at the Multi Content Testbed in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, Korea. The ceremony was attended by Choi Soo-ji, a youth advisor at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the 2030 Advisory Board, and television personalities Daniel Lindemann, Alberto Mondi, and Luck, who are honorary ambassadors for KSIF.

Last year, the foundation built the Metaverse King Sejong Institute, piloting it from November 25 to December 31 to respond to the explosive demand for Korean language education around the world due to the high popularity of K-culture. On the day of its launch, a total of 4,643 people visited the service, with an average of 480 learners per day from 123 countries communicating in Korean.

With the official opening of Metaverse King Sejong Institute in February 2023, foreign Korean language learners will be able to freely communicate in Korean and experience K-culture anytime, anywhere. The Metaverse King Sejong Institute was built to accommodate large numbers of concurrent users and to ensure that learners from countries lacking information technology infrastructure can use it without difficulty. It was established on a two-dimensional graphical foundation, made web-based, and available for free to anyone with an internet connection.

The King Sejong Institute is composed of a campus and a village, both built in a metaverse. The campus includes a lecture hall for Korean language classes, a cultural space for experiencing K-culture, and an event hall for large-scale events. The village is designed for Korean-speaking activities while experiencing daily life in Korea, including iconic Korean landmarks such as Dongdaemun Design Plaza, Seoul Station, Han River Park, and Gwangjang Market.

To organize each space, the foundation utilized educational content from the textbook KSI Practical Korean (formerly Sejong Korean Conversation), which is used by local KSIs. This allows learners to immersively practice speaking in a variety of conversational spaces.

In addition to the map of the Escape Room, the Metaverse King Sejong Institute released two "Korean Life 360°” virtual reality (VR) videos that allow visitors to experience Korean life in a realistic way. The foundation will continue to provide users with new content, releasing new maps such as Korean Folk Village, Amusement Park, and more every month, as well as 12 Korean life 360 VR videos, and three game content to experience K-culture.
