The KSI Brussels, Belgium, was designated as a KSI for the local teacher-training program project in May 2021 and started offering the program in September that year. As this is the first Korean language training program that is offered in Europe, we expected that only a few, five at most, who needed the certification of TOPIK Level-3 or above, but as many as 12 people applied, which was quite surprising to us.
A total of 10 students passed the regular program and eight of them, including Kim Eun-jin, Canada-born Swede, Maribel from Spain, Matilles, Romania-born German, Mishel Yu from the Netherlands, Kenza from Belgium, Ester Lee and Suzanne Lee from Greece, and Sandrine Ong, completed the local teacher-training course.
The first training started in October in full swing. On November 26, a face-to-face workshop was held in EPFC in Brussels, Belgium. The second training started at the end of December.
The face-to-face meeting was fun as all students, who used to see one another only during the online classes, met in person for the first time. They encouraged one another and did their best to complete the program. Students took classes, participated in mock teaching demonstrations, and had discussions lasting from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., which prepared them well to give a teaching demonstration on the last day of the workshop.
The graduation ceremony, which was held on January 31 this year, was the time all students vowed to play vital roles to promote Korean language education as Korean language teachers in Europe.
