Online Korean culture classes : safe and engaging!

KSI Ankara, Turkey (Cho Hayoung, Operating Staff)

Turkish learners curious about Korea's language and culture were treated to online lessons on Korean vowels and consonants, and hands-on Korean cooking classes. Learner response to the Korean food culture class, in which they learned how to make tteokbokki and gimbap, was particularly positive.

Learners also painted fans using Korean folk painting techniques, and explored the worlds of K-pop and traditional Korean music. An animated film of writer Hwang Sunwon’s ‘Sonagi’ was shown, giving learners a taste of the literary beauty of Korean literature, Korean emotions, and the meaning of Korean terms used in the film.
A photo contest was also held on the theme of the culture classes offered by KSI Ankara; many students submitted photo reviews of their culture class experiences. In particular, Ms. Merve Nur, who had learned how to make bibimbap in a KSI Korean cuisine class, sent in a photograph of her family sitting down for a home-made bibimbap meal.

Many KSIs have suspended classes this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope you find the photos of the Korean culture classes at KSI Ankara a happy reminder of what’s possible once the pandemic is behind us. Greetings and best wishes from KSI Ankara. Thank you!
