KSI Bogota Offers Special Lecture on Translating Latin American Literature

KSI Bogota, Colombia (Cho Jung-yoon, Operating Staff)

KSI Bogota invited Jo Gu-ho, Research Professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) Institute of Latin American Studies (HK+), as the second lecturer to speak at Sejong Cultural Academy on September 3. He gave a special lecture on the topic of “How to Best Translate ‘Magical Realism’ by Gabriel Marquez into Korean.”

While studying Spanish at HUFS, Professor Jo became captivated by the works of Gabriel Marquez, the first Colombian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, and went to study in Colombia as soon as he graduated. He obtained a master’s degree in literature from Caro y Cuervo, with a faculty composed of Spanish literature experts, and a doctorate in literature from Javeriana University in Colombia, a prestigious private university in the country.

During the lecture, Professor Jo shared his know-how with students studying Korean in hopes to someday work as a translator and/or interpreter! 100 students attended the lecture via Zoom Live, and the lecture reached more than 7,000 people via Facebook Live.

KSI Bogota plans to keep coming up with diverse programs to be offered via Online Sejong Cultural Academy. So please look forward to it!
