• Starting from the semester commencing in August 2025, the Department of Linguistics at Universidad de Sonora
(Unison) plans to introduce Korean language courses. These classes will be conducted in response to students’
demand for learning Korean and their interest in Korean culture.
• Universidad Americana del Noreste (UANE) intends to include Korean in its language center courses starting
from September 2025. The language center offers foreign language courses such as English, French, Italian, and
Korean to the general public. This initiative aims to expand educational opportunities not only for UANE
students but also for the broader community.

Mission Union School, a public school in Northern California, has been offering Korean language classes since
January 28.

Russia
On January 25, the 16th Korean Language Olympiad was held at Kazan Federal University in Russia. The competition
targeted middle and high school students, as well as university students from Russia and the Commonwealth of
Independent States (CIS). Approximately 150 participants took part, and the finalists delivered presentations in
Korean on various topics such as Samiljeol (March 1st Movement Day), Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving), Admiral Yi
Sun-sin, hanbok (traditional Korean clothing), haenyeo (female divers), and Korea’s “nunchi” (tact) culture.

Uzbekistan
On January 17, the Tashkent Korean Education Center and the National University of Public Security signed a
memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enhance the quality of Korean language education and discuss concrete
measures for fostering talent. Based on this agreement, the National University of Public Security launched an
elective Korean language course on February 7.
Thailand
On February 15, the faculty of the Department of Korean Language at Rangsit University conducted a special
lecture for high school students to prepare them for the A-LEVEL Korean subject in the Thai national entrance
exam.
Philippines
Since February 2024, the Department of Tourism (DOT) in the Philippines has introduced a Korean-language
consultation service through its expanded Tourism Assistance Call Center (TACC). In 2024, the number of Korean
tourists visiting the Philippines reached 1,574,152, an 8.1% increase compared to 2023. Korean tourists can
access the call center’s Korean-language consultation service from Monday to Friday, between 8 AM and 5 PM.
