Now, with KSIF
Yeo One, a member of K-pop idol group Pentagon, appears in the KSIF original web-drama “Idol in my Living Room.” This web-drama will be translated into 10 different languages and is expected to make an easy and fun approach for global audiences to become interested in Korea. The Monthly Knock-Knock interviewed Yeo One and asked to introduce the series as well as what he is proud of in his country.
You acted in KSIF original web-drama “Idol in my Living Room.” Please tell the readers of “Monthly Knock-Knock” about your character and how you feel about the experience.
Hello. Readers of Monthly Knock-Knock, I’m Yeo One starring as Yeo One of Pentagon (laughs). This web-drama is a romance starring Joey (Kang Ji-hoo), an exemplary student at KSI, and Korean idol star Yeo One (Yeo One) from Pentagon. They accidentally start to live in the same house and that’s where the story begins. In the drama, I tried to act as “Yeo One” being a bit fussier than myself in real life (laughs). I’m honored to have been given this opportunity to join the efforts to promote Korean culture across the world (smiles).
There are ten episodes for “Idol in my Living Room.” Which one do you remember the most?
There was a scene where the friends all gather together. I remember everyone had to hold their breaths not to laugh because they were all funny playful people (laughs).
It’s been more than five years since the debut of your group, Pentagon. Have you noticed if there are many more fans that are fluent in the Korean language now compared to the time of your debut? Do you have any experiences of coming across any foreign fans who could speak fluent Korean?
I’m often surprised when I meet them through letters or in person because there are so many fans who study hard to learn the language and actually speak Korean really well! It’s good to see that the more Korean culture is loved, the more people get to learn the language!
On the other hand, you must have learned foreign languages to communicate with your fans. Do you have your own method of learning a language?
I watch movies or TV series of that country so that I can listen to and speak that language in a natural way!
You must have had an abundance of opportunities to communicate with overseas fans. Do you have any unique way of communicating with fans abroad?
My way is to engrave their every single word of support in my heart, and to talk with them and express my gratitude every time there’s a chance to communicate with them.
Is there a Korean word you love the most or use frequently?
My most favorite word must be ‘woojoo!’ Because the name of our fans, Universe, in Korean is woojoo!
The web-drama shows many beautiful places in Korea. Global audiences will be able to watch the videos conveniently and fall in love with the charm Korea has, since there will be subtitles in ten languages including English, French and Spanish. What is “Yeo One’s best spot in Korea” that you’d like to visit with KSI students, like Joey from the series?
I recommend the Han River! I highly recommend that travelers to Korea make sure they enjoy the Han River!
Knock, knock!
