KSI Adelaide, Australia holds an “eco-friendly bag making” event to commemorate Hangeul Day
> Celebrating Hangeul Day and emphasizing the importance of environmental protection by making eco-friendly bags
> A creative and meaningful experience of environmental-protection activities combining Hangeul and art
On October 7, an event commemorating the 577th Hangeul Day was held at KSI Adelaide. The event featured an “eco-friendly bag making” program to honor the spirit of Hangeul Day and emphasize the importance of environmental protection at the same time.
Students made colorful, eco-friendly bags to show off their creativity, using drawings and Korean phrases that were meaningful to them. Through this eco-friendly bag making event, we were able to get insights into the tastes and creativity of participants — from congratulatory messages on Hangeul Day, to their favorite food. “Ramyeon” and “Gimbap” are Korean foods that are especially popular among students, and they proved their popularity by being chosen by many participants in the eco-friendly bag making event. Lines from famous K-dramas were also chosen by many students. Students shared their ideas and got to know each other better during this event.
To encourage the passion and creativity of participants, an event was held to select the best works through students" votes, and six bags that had the most outstanding phrases, the best handwriting, and the most beautiful drawings were selected. Students who created these works were awarded small gifts. Nicole, who received the most votes for the phrase and handwriting, expressed the phrase “Love, happiness, hope, dream, and faith” in Korean in harmony with an upright bamboo. For drawing, Chloe, who humorously depicted a person fully satiated after eating ramyeon, received the most votes.
On this day, not only face-to-face students but also non-face-to-face students participated actively to make the event more meaningful by feeling the unity of the entire institute. Participants said that they had a creative and beneficial experience through an environmental protection activity combining Hangeul and art.
The operating staff and instructors at KSI Adelaide were deeply moved by the creativity and passion of the participants, and said that they felt rewarded that the students made Hangeul Day a more productive and meaningful day. They also said that it was very rewarding to provide an opportunity for students to experience environmental protection activities and be creative at the same time.
