KSIF promotes Korean language and culture
at the World Scout Jamboree!
> Exhibition of Korean language and culture educational materials and operation of Metaverse and Online King Sejong Institute experience zones
> Various experiential events operated, including “Making hand fans with Korean writing” and “O/X quiz on Metaverse King Sejong Institute”
From August 2 to 11, KSIF operated the Korean Culture Experience Zone in the exhibition hall of the World Scout Jamboree. Through the operation of this experience zone, KSIF provided an opportunity for the scouts from about 150 countries participating in the Jamboree to better understand and enjoy Korean language and culture.
At the KSIF Korean Language and Culture Experience Hall, the scouts were able to check out the Korean language and culture education contents of KSIF through mobile applications, virtual reality devices, and computers. In the Metaverse and online King Sejong Institute programs, in particular, the scouts were able to access and experience the Metaverse King Sejong Institute and Online King Sejong Institute.
Foreign scouts visiting the KSIF Korean Language and Culture Experience Hall
Scouts from more than 30 countries including Greece, Denmark, Germany, Morocco, Belgium, Sweden, India, Pakistan, etc., visited the KSIF Korean Language and Culture Experience Hall. A scout from Brazil remarked, “I learned about the Metaverse technology for the first time at the KSI experience booth. And it is my first time experiencing it,” while he created his own Avatar to explore KSI inside the Metaverse, following the guidance of the operating staff.
Scouts who experienced Korean language and culture could also find information on the addresses of KSI in their countries through “KSIs Worldwide.” A scout from Belgium found that there were two cards with the Belgian flag among the 248 KSI cards and said, “I didn’t know there were places I could learn Korean in Belgium,” and took the cards with information on KSI locations in Belgium.
“Making hand fans with Korean writing” received a great response from the scouts
In addition to this, various experiential programs such as hand fan making with Korean writing, O/X quiz on Metaverse King Sejong Institute, and rolling a large dice, etc. were provided at the KSIF Korean Language and Culture Experience Hall. “Making hand fans with Korean writing,” for which the participants made their own hand fans by writing basic Korean, particularly received a great response. A scout from Chile visited the experience hall, saying, “I want to write my favorite K-pop lyrics on a fan.” After she made Korean writing on the fan, she said, “From now on, I will sing along to K-pop looking at the lyrics I wrote.” Another Chilean scout who sat next to her said that the day they return home from Jamboree is his mother’s birthday, and he will take back the hand fan saying “Happy Birthday Mom” in Korean.
President Lee Hai-young of KSIF said, “I hope the youths participating in the Jamboree from all over the world feel a little closer to Korea and understand us better through the KSIF Korean Language and Culture Experience Hall. I hope the young people who return to their countries will visit KSI to learn more about Korea.”
