Rep. Park Jeong of the Culture, Sports & Tourism Committee from the National Assembly, who announced the start of the workshop through a video congratulatory speech, said, “The efforts of the staff at KSI operating institutions who are at the forefront of the Korean Wave have been of great help in strengthening public diplomacy, as well as national status.” He said, “I hope this workshop will be a valuable time to review the best practices of the worldwide KSIs, learn the others’ opinions, and establish a better future and vision for KSI.”

Afterwards, a ceremony for the commendation by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism was held for the achievements of Keimyung University and Soon Chung Hyang University. The two universities have been operating KSI for the last ten years to contribute to the spread of Korean language outside the country. KSI Dushanbe, which has been operated by Keimyung University since 2011, is the only King Sejong Institute in Tajikistan that has produced 2,000 students in the past five years. KSI Tashkent, operated by Soon Chun Hyang University, is the largest King Sejong Institute in Central Asia, attracting about 1,400 learners annually.

In the afternoon, Professor Jo Hyeon-yong of Kyunghee University presented the milestone for KSIF and operating institutions to move forward through his presentation on the theme of “the role and tasks of the King Sejong Institute Foundation upon the 10th year of its launch.”

Finally, a discussion was held between KSIF and participants under the theme of “Requests to KSIF.” They agreed that KSIF and institutions operating KSI would make continuous efforts to develop together.

President Lee Hae-young said, “King Sejong Institute has continuously grown despite the difficult situation due to COVID-19. I will never forget the dedication and hard work of the operating organizations that became the driving force behind.” She added, “We will do our best to gradually reflect the contents of the discussion today through internal review and consultations with related organizations.”
