Local Training for Korean Educators in 2021

  1. A total of 24 locations in 12 countries including the new southern and northern regions were selected through a preliminary contest
  2. By applying the “local Korean teacher training course” accredited by the National Institute of Korean Language, a solid foundation for training teachers suited for the local environment, including non-native speakers, has been established

The King Sejong Institute Foundation (hereinafter KSIF, President: Kang Hyounhwa,) starts its “local Korean language teacher training course” in earnest from September. This is to expand the training of Korean language teachers as the demand for Korean language education abroad increases.

The “local Korean language teacher training course” this year, in particular, is being conducted with accreditation by the National Institute of Korean Language, and trainees can start working as soon as they complete the courses.

Earlier in the year, for two months from April to May, KSIF conducted a public contest and screening to select KSI’s to operate the training courses. As a result, 14 King Sejong Institutes were selected, including those in countries in the new southern and northern regions such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia, as well as countries in Europe, the Americas, and Africa.

The implementing KSIs in each region started recruiting participants for the education and announced the education processes, etc., from September. In order to operate the training course more professionally, KSIF selects local expert institutions in each region to support the operation of the training courses and provision of a pool of teachers.

In this training course, specialized training courses necessary for Korean language education will be created and supported for local non-native speakers who want to be Korean language teachers in foreign languages, and all contents will be localized.

KSIF also plans to continuously strive to create conditions for graduates to work in the local areas by connecting the operation of “local Korean language teacher training course” with local Korean language institutes, such as KSI.
