KSIF to provide local language learning allowances for dispatched teachers

Provision of local language learning allowances for dispatched teachers to ensure adjustment to local environment and teaching efficiency. 16 languages applied in 32 countries.

The King Sejong Institute Foundation (KSIF, president: Kang Hyounhwa) provides local language learning allowances to help dispatched teachers adapt to overseas locations and to perform teaching duties safely during the COVID-19 situation.

Dispatched teachers in service in 2021 and those who had to stay in Korea due to COVID-19 and conduct online lectures constitute the targets of this support.

Teachers can find and apply for their desired course at educational institutions, universities, and academies specializing in foreign languages at home and abroad, only for the official, commercial, and common languages of the country they have been dispatched in. After applying for this course, they can submit a certificate of completion and results, and KSIF will pay a maximum of 300,000 won per half year after review. In order to provide support appropriate to teachers’ particular circumstances, local language courses are not restricted to online or offline formats, and the purchase of textbooks is also supported.

Currently, 82 people from 54 locations in 32 countries are taking local language courses after receiving approval, with courses taking place in 16 languages including English, Vietnamese, and Spanish. Support for the first half of the year will be provided from April to June, and support for the second half will be announced in July.
