Celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Mongolia, the King Sejong Institute Foundation is promoting various exchange projects between Korea and Mongolia via the King Sejong Institute in Mongolia.

The King Sejong Institute Foundation (KSIF, president: Kang Hyounhwa) is holding an international academic conference on the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Mongolia in 2020, and carrying out a lecture support project to spread Korean language education within local middle and high schools and vocational schools.

KSI Ulaanbaatar 1 held the “Academic Conference Celebrating the 30th Anniversary” at the Blue Sky Hotel in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The conference was a success, with Mongolian President Punsalmaagiin Ochirbat, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Mongolia Lee Yeo-hong, Mongolian Minister of Education Tsedevsuren, and 120 other Korean language and Korean culture-related officials in attendance.

The keynote speech at the event was given by Choi Ki-ho, President of the University of Ulaanbaatar International. President Choi gave a lecture on the subject of “The 30th Anniversary of Modern Korea-Mongolia Relationships”. The academic conference was held with two fields of 'The history of the relationship between Korea and Mongolia' and 'Culture and language of the two countries‘.
People including Urzuinhindev, the former Mongolian Ambassador, attended as speakers to diagnose the status and share views on the future of the relationship between Korea and Mongolia.

In addition, support for spreading Korean language education in local middle and high schools and vocational schools will also be expanded.

KSI Ulaanbaatar 1 and Ulaanbaatar 4 in Mongolia participated in the KSIF's ‘2020 Lecture Program Activation Project’ from September, and began lectures in Korean language education in Erdenet, Mongolia's third-largest city. Erdenet is a city located 10 hours away by car from Ulaanbaatar. Although many students in the city are interested in Korea and Korean language, it has an insufficient number of Korean education institutions.

KSI Ulaanbaatar 1 signed a business agreement with Mongolia Erdenet National Vocational Training School and will provide Sejong Korean beginner's lectures for 50 students. KSI Ulaanbaatar 4 signed a business agreement with Erdenet No. 5 school, a middle and high school, and will provide Korean language and Korean culture classes to 40 students and teachers. The KSIF is expecting that this lecture support will act as a catalyst for Korean language education in middle and high schools in the Erdenet region.

Kang Hyounhwa, the President of KSIF said, “Mongolia is the country where the first KSI was established, and a region whose importance has increased further due to the New Northern Policy. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Mongolia, we will strengthen support through the KSI for citizens of both countries to better understand each other and interact more actively.”

Following the '2021 Korean Dissemination in New Southern and New Northern Regions' policy of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the KSIF will expand its support for lectures and educational materials to educational institutions other than KSIs, develop and distribute educational materials meeting local needs in order to spread the Korean language in Mongolia.
