KOICA's Overseas Volunteer Corps continues to support Korean language lectures for overseas learners through the “Online King
Sejong Institute” of the King Sejong Institute Foundation.
According to an announcement by the KSIF on the 2nd, more than 100 KOICA overseas volunteers in charge of Korean language
education who have returned to Korea due to COVID-19 will start teaching Korean language for learners in designated regions
through the online King Sejong Institute from November. KOICA's Overseas Volunteer Corps can freely open lectures via the 'KOICA
Collaborative e-class' in the online King Sejong Institute in order to provide classes to learners.
Prior to this, the KSIF provided training to strengthen educational capabilities for more than 100 KOICA overseas volunteers for three
weeks from October 5 to 23. This introduced the method for opening and operating online training courses via the King Sejong
Institute platform. In order to strengthen the training competencies of volunteers in charge of Korean language education, the KSIF
provided courses such as ‘Understanding the Sejong Korean Beginner's Class Practice' and 'Theory and Practice of KSI's Special
Cultural Lecture and Experience Activities'. In addition, subjects such as the ’Capability Development Course for Taekwondo Educators’
were also provided in cooperation with the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation.
Park Hye-young, manager of the project said, “It is meaningful that KOICA overseas volunteers can continue their Korean education
volunteer activities online through the KOICA collaboration e-class. We will actively identify organizations that need support so that
the cultural diffusion process can be continued.”
The KSIF started operating the online King Sejong Institute in April. From September, the online education platform was opened for
public-purpose Korean education institutions other than KSI. As of now, organizations such as the Bangladesh EPS Center are
conducting Korean language education through the platform.
