The King Sejong Institute Foundation (hereinafter referred to as KSIF) is opening a collaboration-type of King Sejong Institute (hereinafter referred to as KSI) in Ajman Emirate in UAE. KSIF will sign a ‘MOU for operation of Ajman KSIF’ in September with the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Dubai and Ajman University, and the KSI will commence operation within Ajman University. This is the third KSI to be designated within UAE, following ones in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

The Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Dubai, Chun Youngwook stated, “In line with the Year of Mutual Cultural Exchange between Korea and UAE in 2020, it is extremely meaningful that the KSI is opening in Ajman,” and that, “although personal and physical exchanges between the states have slowed down due to COVID-19, I hope that the citizens of Korea and the UAE would take a step closer to each other through KSI.”
Kang Hyounhwa, President of the KSIF stated, “Ajman KSI is a meaningful case that proposed collaboration based on the demand for learning the Korean language from the local universities and local residents that have been analyzed by a Korean embassy overseas,” and that, “we are now able to support Korean language education with the support of the Korean embassy overseas in places that truly require it.”

The collaboration-type KSI is a KSI that is operated by KSIF without subsidies by cooperating with Korean embassies overseas, local governments, public institutes, and companies. From 2019, KSIF has started designating collaboration-type KSIs through public participation with the objective of disseminating Korean language and culture proactively and efficiently in regions where there is high demand for learning Korean language, but no adequate means to meet the demand. KSIF is currently accepting public participation of collaboration-type KSIs in the second half. Details can be seen on KSIF’s homepage (www.ksif.or.kr).
