KSI Ljubljana, Slovenia, Hosts Korea Day Event

> Attendees enjoyed a wide range of Korean cultural programs, including Hangeul calligraphy, K-pop dance, and traditional Korean games

On March 7, a Korea Day event was held at Toma Brejca Elementary School in Kamnik, a city in northern Slovenia. Now in its third year, the event was a great success thanks to the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Slovenia.

The event was co-organized by Toma Brejca Elementary School and King Sejong Institute (KSI) Ljubljana, Slovenia, with special Korean language class teachers Breda and Patricija involved in the planning process.

Around 300 visitors attended, taking part in a variety of workshops that included learning Hangeul, Hangeul calligraphy, and making hanji (traditional Korean paper) pens and gats (traditional Korean hats). Other highlights included trying on hanbok (traditional Korean clothing), traditional Korean games, a Korea-themed quiz, and a K-pop random dance contest, all of which drew enthusiastic participation.

“This event was designed to introduce Korean culture in a positive and engaging way to broaden the horizons of students and visitors alike,” said lead organizers Breda and Patricija. “It was a meaningful and rewarding experience, where students, parents, and visitors could come together in a lively and dynamic atmosphere.” They added that the event was particularly significant as a bridge connecting people and fostering mutual understanding between Korean and Slovenian cultures.

Urša, a learner in Class 3B at KSI Ljubljana, Slovenia, who attended the event, shared her experience: “I got to make a hanji pen and play gonggi-nori (Korean jacks)for the very first time. It was so much fun, and I learned so many new things about Korea through the quiz.”

The event concluded successfully thanks to the dedication of teachers and staff at Toma Brejca Elementary School, along with the support of student volunteers. KSI Ljubljana, Slovenia, will continue to work in collaboration with Ljubljana and other regions across the country to promote the Korean language and Korean culture.
