> Samyang Motive Foundation sponsors customized educational infrastructure support for learners at KSI London, United Kingdom
> Local promotion of value of Korean language and Korean culture through textbook support, scholarships, and Korean Cultural Day event
The King Sejong Institute Foundation (Acting President and Secretary General Choi Hyun-Seung, hereafter referred to as the KSIF) has successfully completed a support project for learners at KSI London, United Kingdom, through sponsorship from the Samyang Motive Foundation. This initiative, which provided scholarships to the KSI through private-sector support, was designed to expand opportunities for overseas learners to study the Korean language and Korean culture.

Through this sponsorship project, the KSIF purchased a total of 120 KSI standard curriculum textbooks and provided them to learners at KSI London. These language textbooks will help to create a sustainable learning environment and reduce the financial burden of course materials. They will be distributed free of charge to students enrolled in in-person classes for the first semester of 2026, as well as to outstanding learners, to help them continue their studies with enthusiasm.
Scholarship recipients were selected from among students enrolled in Korean language courses at Richmond American University, and scholarship certificates were awarded. A total of 10 students were selected based on criteria that included a grade of B+ or higher in Korean language courses, a minimum GPA of 3.3 in their major field of study, strong attendance, and a diligent attitude towards academics. The selection process also took into account overall interest and participation in Korean language and Korean culture, such as involvement in campus Korean culture clubs and participation in Korean cultural events.

As part of this sponsorship project, a Korean Cultural Day event was also held at KSI London on November 19, 2025. The event was attended by key figures including Harmen Veling, head of Europe at Samyang Foods; Phil Deans, president of Richmond American University London; and Mary Robert, director of KSI London. About 160 participants took part, including KSI learners, Richmond American University students and staff, and members of the local community.

The event included a report on the progress of the sponsorship project and a scholarship certificate presentation ceremony, along with hands-on programs that allowed attendees to experience Korean food and culture. In particular, activities such as the Buldak Spicy Noodle Speed Eating Challenge, a Korean food tasting booth, traditional Korean mask-making, and a hanbok dressing experience gave participants the opportunity to engage with the flavors and beauty of Korea through all five senses.

Beyond simple material support, the KSIF expects that this sponsorship project will serve as an exemplary case of collaborating with the private sector to expand opportunities to experience and appreciate the value of the Korean language and Korean culture. Moving forward, the KSIF will continue working with various partner organizations to build a strong foundation that will enable KSI learners around the world to pursue their dreams.
