> Enhanced teaching competencies through one-on-one consulting between coaches and local teachers
> Total of 290 participants reached through on-site teacher consulting for Korean language education (2022–2025)
The King Sejong Institute Foundation (Acting President and Secretary General Choi Hyun-Seung, hereafter referred to as the KSIF) successfully concluded the 2025 KSI On-Site Teacher Korean Language Education Consulting program. In its efforts to strengthen the Korean language teaching capabilities of overseas on-site teachers, the KSIF further advanced this year’s program by focusing on customized coaching that reflects the needs of individual teachers.
This program was designed for non-native local teachers affiliated with KSIs who teach Korean in various countries around the world. Its aim was to enhance the practical teaching competencies required in actual classroom settings and to raise the overall quality of Korean language education. In particular, by providing consulting tailored to local educational environments and learner characteristics, the program sought to address challenges encountered in the classroom and to build a sustainable foundation for Korean language education.

A key feature of the 2025 program was the shift from a one-to-many coaching model to one-on-one, individualized coaching. This approach enabled each teacher’s competencies and teaching style to be diagnosed more precisely, while delivering practice-oriented consulting that could be applied directly to real classrooms.
The consulting program consisted of pronunciation consulting (basic intonation coaching), class design consulting (based on actual teaching cases), and lesson plan consulting. The coaches also completed activity logs for each session, allowing for systematic management of the entire consulting process. This ensured continuous monitoring of curriculum implementation and enhanced the overall effectiveness of the consulting.

In addition, this year the KSIF developed the new courses Teaching Korean Grammar with Similar Meanings and Korean Vocabulary Education for Non-Native Teachers, which take into account the characteristics of on-site teachers. Teaching Korean Grammar with Similar Meanings covers not only explanations of individual grammar items but also the overall grammatical framework of Korean language education and the grammatical characteristics of Korean. Korean Vocabulary Education for Non-Native Teachers presents teaching strategies by vocabulary type using digital media, which non-native teachers can apply directly in actual classes. All participating teachers completed the program.
In a post-program satisfaction survey conducted after the conclusion of the consulting project, all coaches recorded a high average satisfaction score of 4.96, with particularly positive evaluations of the individualized coaching approach and systematic program management.
