On October 29, the KSI Korean Cultural Center, Egypt, in cooperation with Ain Shams University, hosted a special seminar titled “Strategies for Advancing Korean Language Education in Egypt.” Organized to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Korean Language at Ain Shams University, the seminar was one of the final events of the 2025 Visiting KSI program. The seminar, jointly led by Oh Seong-ho, director of the KSI Korean Cultural Center, Egypt, and Salwa Rashad, head of the Department of Linguistics at Ain Shams University, was attended by approximately 30 learners. Salwa Rashad first introduced the development of the Department of Korean Language from its early days to the present, explaining the role it has played in Korean language education and the spread of Korean culture in Egypt. The Department of Korean Language at Ain Shams University was established in 2005 as the first Korean language department in Egypt as well as in the Middle East and Africa. Initially staffed solely by Korean faculty members, the department has expanded its educational capacity since producing its first graduates in 2009, with local alumni joining the faculty.
