USA preliminary round of “Global Korean Language Competition” being filmed at KSI Center, USA
KSIF produces and airs a special broadcast of “Global Korean Language Competition” in cooperation with Korea Broadcasting System
> Preliminary rounds at KSI locations in four countries and the final round in Korea being aired on KBS1 From October 9 to November 6 for five weeks

The King Sejong Institute Foundation (hereinafter referred to as KSIF) worked with KBS to produce a special program, “Global Korean Language Competition,” at KSI. The Competition, consisting of four preliminary rounds in KSI locations in four countries and the final round in Korea, started airing on October 9, and is scheduled to air a total of five consecutive episodes until November 6.
“Korean Language Competition” is a representative cultural program of KBS that has been loved by viewers for 20 years since it first started in 2003. KBS, in cooperation with KSIF, planned the special program “Global Korean Language Competition” to report on the enthusiasm for Korean language learning and the spread of Korean Wave at KSI locations around the world, and to improve the status of Korean language.

In the preliminary rounds held in a total of four countries (USA, Vietnam, France, and Egypt), KSI learners of various countries participated in Hangeul and Korean quizzes. KSI learners did their best to enter the final round, demonstrating their Korean skills from KSI. All of them had their own dreams in Korean, and had clear goals and visions of learning the language.

Manon, a learner from KSI La Rochelle, France said her motivation was to teach Korean language to French people because she liked Korea. Sara, a learner from KSI Korean Cultural Center, Egypt, who used to be a dentist but now works as a medical interpreter, said, “I feel rewarded by providing language interpretation over the phone when Korean patients receive treatment in overseas countries.

In the fifth episode which is the final round in Korea, eight learners who passed the preliminary rounds will compete in four teams to measure their Korean skills against each other. The final winning team will receive the prize money of KRW10 million. Episode 5 of the “Global Korean Language Competition” will be aired on Monday, November 6 at 7:40 in the evening. Lee Hai-young, the President of KSIF, stated, “I hope our KSI students who appeared on had a great time and would like to see them study Korean with even more passion. Our foundation will continue to dedicate our efforts to spreading the values of Korean language and Hangeul across the world through close cooperation with relevant institutions.
