Now, in KSI
> Since its inception in 2022, KSI has conducted classes on the preparation of various Korean delicacies like Kimchi, Tteokbokki, and Gimbap.
> High student satisfaction with classes employing local culture and ingredients
On May 13, KSI Tunis hosted a gimbap-making class for students learning the Korean language.
Starting with kimchi-making last November and followed by tteokbokki-making in February of this year, KSI Tunis has been offering special classes to help students better understand Korean cuisine.
A total of 19 participants, including 16 students from KSI Tunis and three Korean international students, were a part of this culinary event. They first learned about the origin and ingredients of gimbap, after which they cooked the rice and prepared the ingredients themselves. They also rolled two rows of gimbap each while observing the teacher's demonstration. The gimbap they prepared was judged by three Korean international students, and the top three were awarded small gifts. With their homemade gimbap, the students enjoyed a picnic in the garden of their teacher's house adjacent to KSI Tunis.
The purpose of the event was to introduce Korean ingredients to the students of KSI Tunis, and gimbap was chosen as the focus due to its simplicity and suitability for serving large groups. Notably, considering Tunisia's Islamic traditions, the dish was seasoned with carrots, cucumbers, tuna, and eggs rather than beef or sausage. The students also sourced hard-to-find danmuji (pickled radish) from a Chinese grocery store at a premium price and learned about the distinct savory flavor of Korean sesame oil.
KSI Tunis has future plans to create various Korean dishes, including chicken kalguksu (homemade noodle soup), which features kalguksu noodles that are hard to source locally.
