2022 KSI Eurasia Workshop Held Successfully

> Event held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in celebration of the 30 years of diplomatic relations between Korea and Uzbekistan and the 10th anniversary of KSIF.
> First in-person event in 3 years. Training session with Korean language education workers across the Eurasia region.

KSIF successfully held 2022 Eurasia KSI Workshop and 2022 KSI Translation/Interpretation Workshop during November 8-10 at Uzbekistan State World Languages University located in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Since 2013, the foundation has been holding regional KSI workshops on an annual basis to train its instructors and share best KSI practices. The workshop has been held in 10 locations worldwide, with the participation of 4,684 KSI instructors and staff members from 75 countries.

This year’s event was held in-person after 3 years of having online sessions due to COVID-19. It gathered around 150 attendees, including Korean language teachers from 25 KSI branches across 9 Eurasia countries,* as well as those related to Korean language education in Uzbekistan.
* 9 countries: Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan (in alphabetical order).

Remarkably, this workshop was co-organized with the Language Promoting Agency (LPA) of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which is in charge of the foreign language education policies. The foundation and LPA have signed an MOU in April 2022 and have been cooperating to promote Korean language education in the country.

The opening ceremony was held on the first day, Tuesday November 8, with a congratulatory address from Minister Counselor Gook Jang-hyun of the Embassy of Korea in Uzbekistan followed by words of encouragement from Director Obidov Sanjar Omonxujayevich of LPA and President Ulugbek Azizov of Uzbekistan State World Languages University. The program continued with the 9th special lecture with Azimjon Khusanov Deputy Director of LPA under the title “Landscape of Foreign Language in Uzbekistan and Outlook for Korean Language,” and a presentation on best practices from 10 years of KSIF.

The second day of the workshop, Wednesday November 9, was filled with training sessions on teaching methods for Korean language teachers across Eurasian regions, including KSI Translation/Interpretation Workshop. The last day of the event, Thursday November 10, was dedicated to teaching methods for Korean culture, such as hanji craft, Korean calligraphy, Korean food, hanbok.

An instructor from KSI Fergana, Uzbekistan said, “This was a helpful opportunity because I was able to see the materials I’ll be using for the classes in the Translation/Interpretation Course and discover effective teaching method through professional lecture demonstration.”

President Lee Haiyoung of KSIF said, “This workshop was meaningful for KSI instructors in Eurasian regions, helping them strengthen their teaching skills and share their educational experiences with each other.”
