KSIF conducts 17th King Sejong Institute Korean
Language Teacher Training
- Offline teaching practice substituted with online teaching due to COVID-19
- Teacher certification (Level 3) granted after completion of training and passing
of Test of Teaching Korean as a Foreign Language
The KSIF will be conducting its 17th King Sejong Institute Korean Language Teacher
Training program.
A total of 30 individuals selected by the KSIF based on recommendations from KSI
directors will receive a total of 120 hours of training until August 28. One unique feature
of this year’s training program is that, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the KSIF will be
conducting the offline teaching practice component of the program online. The online
teaching practice will be provided in accordance with relevant guidelines of the National
Institute of Korean Language.
Participants who complete the training program will have the option of taking the Test
of Teaching Korean as a Foreign Language, and those who pass the test will go on to be
evaluated by a Korean language teacher qualification screening committee. Those who
are approved by the committee will be granted certification as Korean language teachers
(Level 3).
The King Sejong Institute Korean Language Teacher Training program is operated by the
KSIF for the purpose of strengthening the expertise of KSI teachers who do not have
teacher certification and/or have not completed the program before. As of 2019, a total
of 580 KSI teachers completed the program.
