We made our first Kimchi!

King Sejong Institute, Riga opened Korean food class of ‘2019 King Sejong Cultural Academy’ on November 16th. This year’s theme of Korean food class was ‘Kimchi’. 20 learners in the beginning class who have never experienced spicy food including Kimchi participated in this event. The institute invited the owner and chief of only one Korean restaurant in Latvia for this class. The participants made Kimchi filling with various seasoning and vegetables and mixed with the pickled cabbages.

Although they got seasoning stain here and there and sneezed due to red pepper powder as like beginners, they did their best for the rare opportunity to make Kimchi, Korea’s signature dish. The highlight of the event was the time to taste fresh Kimchi. The participant tasted the Kimchi that they made themselves with rice and grilled pork belly. One participant said, “I’m very proud of myself to make Kimchi” and also said she will make kimchi at home by herself with red peppers presented.
