Four learners of King Sejong Institute, “We’re taking language training at Kyunghee University, Korea University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Yonsei University!”

- On October 23, 「Scholarship Ceremony for Winners of 2018 King Sejong Institute Korean Speech Contest」 held

The four winners of ‘2018 King Sejong Institute Korean Speech Contest’ will take Korean language training at the universities in Korea.

King Sejong Institute Foundation invited the four winners and held the ceremony to receive the scholarship certificates from supporting universities. The foundation prepared the event to cheer KSI’s learners who just started language training at the universities in Korea, and to express appreciation to the universities which supported the scholarship to the learners.

Besides Choi Young-min, the director of Cultural Business, Kim Kyung-ji, a visiting professor of International Education Institute at Kyunghee University, Park So-hee, a teacher of Korean Language Center at Korean University, and Yeom Dong-gi, a senior manager of Sungkyunkwan Language Institute at Sungkyunkwan University attended the ceremony held in the conference room of the foundation.

The four KSI learners who received the scholarship certificates were Prakaymook Patcharoen (Chiangmai, Thailand), Sermatoba Azakan (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan), Nguyen Ngoc Diep (Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam), and Klaudia Kim (Korean Cultural Center in Poland)

Prakaymook Patcharoen will take a language training at Kyunghee University for 5 months from October, Sermatoba Azakan at Korea University for 6 months from September, Nguyen Ngoc Diep at Sungkyunkwan University for 5 months from June, and Klaudia Kim at Yonsei University for 3 months from September.

Choi Young-min, the director of Cultural Business said, “I would like to thanks to Kyunghee University, Korea University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Yonsei University for providing the opportunities of language training to our KSI learners. We’ll strengthen the cooperation between the foundation and universities in the future and support more KSI learners to study in Korea.”

Klaudia Kim who received the scholarship said, “I had a lot of worries until I quit my job in Poland and came to Korea. However, now I’m here to study Korean and I feel like a dream.”

'2018 KSI Korean Speech Contest', held on October 4 last year is a competition to compete for Korean speaking skills of KSI learners around the world and it has been held annually since 2014. Last year alone, 2,635 learners from 50 countries participated in the contest, 14 finalists were selected as winners, and they got the opportunities of language training scholarships in Korea this year.
