
King Sejong Institute Foundation and Gyeongbokgung Palace Office held ‘King Sejong Institute’s Korean Class at Jyphyeonjeon’ to celebrate 573 years of Hangeul Day at Sujeongjeon, Gyeongbokgung Palace.
The class opened from 02:00 pm to 04:00 pm in three times on October 7, 9, and 10. About 50 foreigners participated in Korean language class for three days. Participants learned the principles of Hangeul creation and basic Korean conversation and move to Heungbokjeon, Gyeongbokgung to experience Hangeul calligraphy. In particular, the artist Kang Byung-in of Kang Byung-in Calligraphy Institute was in charge of the class. Participants draw the words such as ‘춤’, ‘행복’, and ‘사랑’ on their paper fans and drawing papers and completed each calligraphy work.
Ms. Masume Saleh from Iran, who participated in the class, said, “Gyeongbokgung Sujeongjeon is usually restricted to the public. I heard that I can take a Korean language and culture class in Sujeongjeon, so I applied it with pleasure.”. Mr. Valentine from France who is traveling to Korea for the first time said, “It was interesting that there is a Hangeul Day to celebrate the creation of Hangeul in Korea. And I could feel the beauty of Hangeul through Hangeul Calligraphy class.”
The foundation prepared ‘KSI Korean Language Class at Jyphyeonjeon’ for the foreigners who visit Korea to make them interest in Korean language and culture. They said that they’ll also introduce KSIs overseas to the participants to help them continue to study Korean in their home countries.
