<King Sejong Institute’s Korean Class at Jyphyeonjeon> enjoying at Gyeongbokgung Palace on Hangeul Day, Recruiting foreign participants

The class for foreigners who want to spend Hangeul Day in special way is coming for the first time. It’s KSI’s Korean Class at Jyphyeonjeon.

King Sejong Institute Foundation and Gyeongbokgung Palace Office are recruiting foreigners who want to join “KSI’s Korean Class at Jypyeonjeon” from September 24 to October 1.

“KSI’s Korean Class at Jypyeonjeon” will be hold three times on October 7, 9, and 10 and operated from 14:00 to 16:00 at Sujeongjeon in Gyeongbokgung. Recruiting total 120 participants, one class per 40 persons, and unable to be duplicated participation. Everyone but non-Korean such as tourist, international students, marriage migrants, etc. can join it. You can sign up for a class from the websites of KSIF and Gyeongbok Palace office. “KSI’s Korean Class at Jypyeonjeon” is consists of Korean language class that learning the principles of Hangeul Creation, its vowels and consonants, and the basic Korean conversation and Korean culture class that experiencing Hangeul calligraphy. Participants are planning to take classes in the Sujeongeon Hall, the site of the former Jiphyeonjeon, and Heungbokjeon Hall, a Royal reception hall of King Gojong. They are also going to a tour of Gyeongbokgung Palace after Korean language and culture classes. Foreigners, especially, who participate in the Korean class on Oct. 9 can attend classes wearing hanbok prepared by the foundation.

Kang Hyun-hwa, a president of the foundation, said, "In an era of 15 million foreign tourists annually, the foundation prepared this Korean classes to provide the chance to experience Korean language and culture for the foreigners visiting Korea,” and explained the background of the class, “we open the class at Jungjeonjeon (formerly known as Hyeonhyeon), where foreign tourists visited the most and King Sejong created Hangeul at, to add more meaning of the class.

In particular, "KSI’s Korean Class at Jiphyeonjeon" drew attention by the first collaborative project between the foundation and Gyeongbok Palace office. For the Korean language class, the foundation will design the classes of Korean language and culture and assign instructors, while Gyeongbokgung provides the space of Sujeongjeon and Heungbokjeon and support a tour of Gyeongbokgung Palace.
