‘Americas Workshop for King Sejong Institute Directors and Operating Staff 2019’ ended in great success.

- Held in Los Angeles of the United States for four days from August 6th(Tue.) to 9th(Fri.)

The KSIF and the Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles held ‘Americas Workshop for King Sejong Institute Directors and Operating Staff 2019’ in Los Angeles, the United States from August 6th(Tue.) to 9th(Fri.).

About 50 operating staffs and presidents of 20 KSIs from 10 countries in North America such as the US and Canada, and Latin America such as Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and Colombia attended this workshop.

On the first day, in the opening ceremony held in the Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles, a congratulatory address was delivered by Kim, Wan-Joong, the consul general of the Korean Consulate General in Los Angeles, and there was a congratulatory performance by specialists in Samulnori of Sejong Culture Academy. And then, the people related to KSIs from Waterloo Canada, Montevideo Uruguay, and Sao Leopoldo Brazil shared the local know-how to spread Korean language & culture by presenting the cases of operating institutes.

In the afternoon, the budget operation education of KSI was provided to strengthen the institute managers’ practical work competencies. After that, in the welcoming banquet, Park, Wijin, the Director of Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles delivered a welcoming speech, which opened the time for exchanges between people related to the operation of institutes. On the second day(8th, Thursday), the managers of 20 KSIs from 10 countries in America discussed the measures for spreading Korean language & culture in each country.

In order to share the current state of spreading Korean language & culture and also to strengthen the educational professionalism in each region, the foundation has carried forward the ‘Outreach Workshop’ since 2013. This year, starting with ‘The Local Teachers Recruitment Workshop of KSI in Eurasia’ held in Moscow, Russia in last June and this America Workshop in August, the foundation is also planning to hold ‘The Local Teachers Recruitment Workshop of KSI in Southeast Asia’ in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam in November. The foundation expects that these workshops in each region could contribute to the reinforcement of practical work competencies of teachers and managers of KSIs, and also the establishment of mutual human networks.
