[The World Korean Educators Conference 2019] ended in great success.

The festival of Korean educators in the whole world, [The World Korean Educators Conference 2019] ended on July 12th after completing its schedule for five days.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, and King Sejong Institute Foundation held [The World Korean Educators Conference 2019] in The Plaza Hotel from July 8th(Mon.) to 12th(Fri.). This conference was participated by about 200 people such as experts in Korean language/
culture including educators of 92 King Sejong Institutes in 36 countries.
The opening ceremony performed in The Plaza Hotel on July 9th(Tues.) was attended by Park, Yang-Woo, the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Kim, Nak-Joong, the Director of National Hangeul Museum, Bae, Gi-Dong, the Director of National Museum of Korea, and So, Gang-Chun, the Director of the National Institute of the Korean Language. This opening ceremony had the appointment ceremony for an actor Lee, Min-Ho as an honorary ambassador of King Sejong Institute. The actor Lee, Min-Ho who received the appointment letter from Park, Yang-Woo, the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism said, “It is such an honor to become an honorary ambassador of King Sejong Institute. I will work hard to widely introduce Korean language/culture”. After that, the ceremony for delivering the appointment letters to 13 new King Sejong Institutes and the appreciation plaques to the presidents of four excellent King Sejong Institutes of 2019 was held.

After the opening ceremony, there were presentations for introducing the cases of operating ‘Sejong Culture Academy’ such as ‘Korean food’, ‘Hanbok’, ‘traditional play’, and ‘K-pop’. After that, there was a discussion under the theme of ‘Stories about King Sejong Institute by speaking in Korean and communicating through Korean culture’. After the forum, the presidents of excellent King Sejong Institutes presented their cases of operation. The four presidents such as Pauline Pey Kar, the honorary president of University of South Australia in Australia, Georgii Belcheff, the vice-president of Sofia University in Bulgaria, Nguyen Gwang Lyn, the president of Hue University in Vietnam, and Julio Fernandez, the vice-president of ORT University in Uruguay shared the excellent cases of operating King Sejong Institute and also sought for the development direction in this conference.
In the evening of the 9th(Tue.), ‘The Night of Exchanges for the World Korean Educators’ participated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Korean language educators was held in Lotte Hotel Seoul. The First Lady, Kim, Jeong-Sook also attended this event to encourage the educators. Especially, Tyler Rasch, a broadcaster who used to be a learner of King Sejong Institute in Korean Cultural Center of New York grabbed attention by providing a talk concert under the theme of ‘Korean language education and K-wave cultural experience’. Yu, Hye-Sook who was a teacher for Tyler Rasch in King Sejong Institute, also participated in this talk concert, and then met with him.

On the 10th(Wed.), there were diverse trainings to strengthen the professional competencies of Korean language educators such as how to write lesson plans & assessment education. In the morning of the 11th(Thur.), Prof. Park, Dong-Ho of Korean Language in Kyunghee University provided a special lecture under the theme of ‘prospect of Korean language teachers in the world and requirements for Korean language teachers’, which received huge responses from participating educators. In the afternoon of the same day, the participants viewed the National Museum of Korea and the National Hangeul Museum. Especially, Kang, Hee-Jin, an operating staff of King Sejong Institute of Vilnius, participating in the experience of making a Hangeul stamp in the National Hangeul Museum said, “It was useful to be able to experience diverse things using Hangeul.”

In the closing ceremony on the 12th(Fri.), Kang, Hyeon-Hwa, the chairman of foundation encouraged the participating educators by saying, “The quality of education cannot surpass the quality of educators. We will continuously and variously support for the educators of King Sejong Institute”. ‘The World Korean Educators Conference’ is held every year since 2009, in order to improve the professionalism of Korean language educators in the world, and also to establish the cooperative networks.
