’The 5th Hangeul Idea Award’ – Add a new imagination to Hangeul.

King Sejong Institute Foundation holds ‘The 5th Hangeul Idea Award’ from July 10th(Wed.).
The application period of this award, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, supervised by King Sejong Institute Foundation, and sponsored by Hancom Inc., is from July 19th(Fri.) to Aug. 19th(Mon.). Everyone who has a new idea of products based on ‘Hangeul’ could participate in this event regardless of nationality and age.
Hangeul products reborn with the eyes of world citizens through the networks of King Sejong Institute
The theme of this award is the product idea based on Hangeul, and the award is divided into total three areas like contents, IT, and design. The screening will be focusing on the originality, completion, and impact of the idea for discovering the value more than the script of Hangeul.
Especially, the award is supervised by King Sejong Institute Foundation this year for the first time, so that the participation from diverse countries could be induced by widely informing this award through the networks of 180 King Sejong Institutes in 60 countries. Also, through the Special Award for Foreigner, there will be a chance to see the Hangeul products reborn with new eyes of people whose mother-tongue is not Korean.
Award that realizes ideas and even actively supports the commercialization
Going through the experts’ screening, total 15 works are selected as prize-winners. The grand prize winner receives the Award of Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism while the winners of contents/design/foreigner fields receive the Award of Chairman of King Sejong Institute Foundation. The winners of IT field receive the Award of President of Hancom Inc.

In order to actually commercialize the ideas, the prize-winners receive the phased-follow-up support such as consultation from experts, production of prototype, and participation in EXPO and exhibition. Also, the prize-winning works get the opportunity to realize through ‘Malangmalang Platform’ filled with diverse IT contents, operated by the sponsor, Hancom Inc..
The staff in charge of foundation said, “This award for discovering products based on Hangeul could increase the domestic/foreign interest in Hangeul, and also strengthen the basis for spreading Korean language/culture.”
