‘King Sejong Institute as the center of K-Wave’ is expanded to 180 institutes in 60 countries in the whole world.

King Sejong Institute is open for the first time in four countries such as Laos, Serbia, El Salvador, and Turkmenistan.

King Sejong Institute Foundation newly designated 13 King Sejong Institutes in 11 overseas countries on June 5th(Wednesday). In each continent, there are nine institutes in Asia, one institute in Europe, and three institutes in America. Thus, King Sejong Institute is expanded to 180 institutes in 60 countries in the whole world.

This year, King Sejong Institute is open for the first time in four countries such as Laos, Serbia, El Salvador, and Turkmenistan. Especially, Serbia is the second country in the Balkans of Europe, opening King Sejong Institute following Bulgaria, which is expected to become a bridgehead for the spread of Korean language & culture in the Balkans in the future. Also, through the new designation of Laos in the new southern area and Turkmenistan in the new northern area, the cultural exchanges between countries based on Korean language would be more vitalized.

For the contest of new King Sejong Institute of this year, total 53 institutes from 31 countries applied. The foundation newly designated total 13 King Sejong Institutes through document screening, site inspection, and final screening. Recording the competition of 4 to 1, the contest of King Sejong Institute was fired up this year.

In July, the foundation will deliver a letter of appointment as King Sejong Institute and provide the education of institute operation, by inviting people related to the new King Sejong Institutes to ‘The World Korean Educators Conference 2019’ which is an event for exchanges of Korean language educators in the whole world.
