First Korean Sports Day!

On November 24th, KSI Surabaya held ‘KSI Sports Day’ at Hayam Wuruk Gymnasium. About 80 students from KSI Surabaya and general public participated in the event. They were divided into two teams of white and blue and competed in 9 sports including group jumping rope, arm wrestling and tug-of-war. It was held for three hours from 3pm and blue team won the overall games by 55 to 45. Ian, KSI student, who participated in the event was satisfied and said, “There is no such sports culture in Indonesia and the event was new for me. It gave me a chance to get closer to my classmates at KSI.”

Korean Speech Competition in India

On November 12th, KSI Korean Cultural Center, India hosted <11th All India Korean Language Speech Contest> at University of Delhi. It was supported by Asiana Airlines and the occasion was graced by the presence of H.E. Bong-kil Shin, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to India, and Sang-yong Kang, head of Asiana Airlines. About 400 people attended the event and a total of 28 contestants: 13 in Beginner level, 7 in Intermediate level and 8 in advanced level: participated in the contest. They had passed preliminary from their universities which provide Korean language courses. All the first prize winners from each level were KSI students. “It is an honor to receive the grand prize followed by winning KSI Korean Speech Contest 2018. I’d like to continue my Korean studies and achieve my dream of becoming a Korean language teacher,” said Sourabhi Maiti, the winner from the Advanced level.

Their Korean Writing Skills!

On October 6th, KSI Hue hosted ‘The 5th Vietnam KSI Writing Contest & K-Pop Competition’. 25 learners from 9 different institutes in Vietnam such KSIs Can Tho, Qui Nhơn, and Hanoi 3 participated in the event. Khonm Minh Ngoc from KSI Hanoi 3 received the grand prize for the writing which described how different climates of Vietnam and Korea influence different use of tableware as well as taste of foods. After the writing contest, it was followed by a K-pop competition where 8 teams participated that had passed the first round in August. The grand prize was awarded to QB Girls from KSI Bình Dương. “We will continue to host this competition as this brings about harmony among the learners of KSIs,” said Mi-hae Choi, head of KSI Hue.
