KSI Center, Indonesia hosted various events to celebrate Hangeul Day. On October 7th, it made a video to celebrate Hangeul Day in Jakarta. In the video citizens wore a t-shirt with a logo, ‘We ♥ Hangeul’ and congratulated the day with a message, “We love Hangeul.” On October 9th, the center held a poem competition. About 30 KSI students composed poems with words such as ‘Hangeul’ and ‘Sejong.’ “We held these events to promote the meaning of Hangeul Day to the people in Indonesia,” and “It’s been very meaningful as we were able to reach out to not just our KSI students but also the general public,” said KSI manager, Desi tri Anggraeni.
On October 19th, Dushanbe 1 KSI held a workshop for students of ‘Sejong Korean Culture 2’ to make a Korean flag. It was a part of ‘Sejong Korean Culture 2’ learning about national holidays of Korea and Kim Hyung-jeong, teacher, taught them about Hangeul Day and how to draw a Korean flag. The participants learnt the meaning of the flag and decorated the flag with congratulatory messages on Hangeul Day. Their flags have been posted on the KSI board to show off to other learners. One of the participants, Fotima, said, “I’ve always thought Hangeul is such beautiful writing and I would write Hangeul on my things. Decorating Korean flag with Hangeul was really interesting.”
On October 13th, Nipuni Sandunika Perera won the grand prize at ‘The 11th Korean Speech Contest’ hosted by KOICA. The event took place at Colombo Public Library where 12 Sri Lankan finalists participated after their first round in September. Nipuni presented her speech under the theme ‘the happiest moment’ and received a great response from the audience. As she has won the grand prize, she will be given an opportunity to go to Korea for three months of Korean language training program. She has been coming to King Sejong Institute since 2015. She fell in love with Korean drama, ‘Dae Jang Geum,’ and started studying Korean at Colombo 1 KSI and she continues to study until today. She has been an outstanding student and has completed all the courses up to Intermediate level 2B (Sejong Korean 8). She is 18 years old and hopes to enter a Korean university and study Korean language even further.
