Siem Reap KSI hosted a calligraphy class on Wednesday from July 25th until September 5th. A total of 27 KSI students learnt calligraphy for about 12 weeks. They wrote Korean words such as ‘mother,’ ‘rabbit’ and ‘love.’ “It’s been a pleasure to teach the beauty of Hangeul to Cambodian students,” said teacher, Joo-heung Kim, who conducted the calligraphy class. Their work will be exhibited at Hangeul Day event in October and it will be open to general public.
As an event of ‘Korean Culture Day’, KSI students made various kinds of Korean traditional masks. In August, 11 students participated in a mask-making class and they chose either Yangban (male mask) or Boone (female mask) and painted their own masks. Once they completed making them, they actually wore them and took pictures with their friends. “I’ll hang my Korean traditional mask at home,” said Zhao Qianwen, one of the students who participated in the class.
Hanoi 3 KSI, Vietnam held a Korean traditional mirror making class. Five KSI students participated and made their own mirror with hanji (traditional Korean paper handmade from mulberry trees). Especially, instructor Soo-min Lee had put whole-hearted efforts to prepare for the class that she even took a Korean paper art class from association of Korean residents in Hanoi just to conduct the class at KSI. “I truly enjoyed making Korean traditional mirror which I used to just watch on the television,” said Pham Khanh Linh, a student who participated in the class.
