Korean Language Educators Conference in China

 

Participation of 100 Korean educators and

related officials from 21 KSIs in China

 

Korean educators in China congregated together to seek ways to supply and endorse Korean language and culture within the country.

 

From August 23rd to 25th, King Sejong Institute Foundation hosted a three-day ‘Workshop for KSIs China 2018’. About hundred Korean language education professors, students and officials from 21 KSIs in China participated in the event which was held at Korean Cultural Center and Kunlun Hotel in Beijing.

On the first day of the workshop, the head of Korean Cultural Center, China, Han Jae-hyuk, delivered a keynote speech under the title, ‘Status Quo of Korea-China Cultural Exchange.’ Then officials from KSIs from Hangzhou, Xian and Hohhot presented their case studies of KSI management. In the afternoon, the participants were divided into two groups: administrative management staffs and faculty: and they were provided customized lectures. Managers of KSIs attended a lecture on administrative operation while Korean educators learnt about teaching methods and application of <Sejong Korean Conversation>.

On the final day of the event, a completion ceremony of ‘Korean teacher education program’ was held along with a congratulatory speech by Korean ambassador to China, Noh Young-min. 34 educators from KSIs China and Mongolia received the certificates.

 

On the following day, KSIs administrative staffs discussed ways to collaborate among KSIs in China. KSIs faculty members underwent training in scholastic achievement assessment and participated in a traditional bracelet making class as a part of Korean culture education method.

 

Since 2013 KSIF has been hosting a regional workshop annually in order to strengthen a cooperative network among Korean educators in different regions and provide high quality Korean language education. In 2013 the regional workshop was first started in China, and then it was held in South Asia, Eurasia, and Europe in each consecutive year, and in 2017 the workshops were held in Asia, America, and South Asia. Especially, since last year the regional workshop is held three times per year. In this year, the regional workshop was first held in China and another workshop will be held in New Delhi this month and Vilnius, Lithuania in November.
