National Institute of the Korean Language Introduced New Korean Dictionary for Foreigners

Korean Language Study Web Dictionary <National Institute of the Korean Language’s Korean-Foreign Language Dictionary>, Offered in 10 Different Languages

October 5, National Institute of Korean Language unveiled the interactive Korean language dictionary <Woorimal Sam>, <Hangul Basic Dictionary>, and <National Institute of the Korean Language’s Korean-Foreign Language Dictionary>.

<Hangul Basic Dictionary>, containing 50,000 basic words, is a web dictionary for beginners. It helps beginners to easily understand the words and offers example sentences and grammar that are frequently used in daily life. It also offers multimedia information (illustrations, photos, videos, pronunciation techniques, etc.) as well as connections to information of related words.

<National Institute of the Korean Language’s Korean-Foreign Language Dictionary> is the first bilingual dictionary offered in 10 different languages including Russian, Mongolian, Vietnamese, Spanish, Arabic, English, Indonesian, Japanese, Thai, and French. It was based on <Hangul Basic Dictionary>. The dictionary was made in consideration of the characteristics of the Korean language and Internet users. Moreover, it also includes a screen keyboard so that anyone can utilize the dictionary on any computer. Other functions are level information (beginner’s, intermediate, advanced) that allows users to know whether a certain word is frequently used, a vocabulary memo function, language choice option, and sorting criteria.
