Yangon KSI in Myanmar Opened Thanks to the Sponsorship of POSCO DAEWOO

Expected to Become a Platform for Popularizing Korean language and Culture in Myanmar

In order to provide Korean language education and popularize the Korean culture in Yangon, Myanmar, KSIF designated its very first Myanmar branch in Yangon and held the opening ceremony at University of Yangon on August 17.

At the ceremony, a number of dignitaries – including U Pho Kaung (President of University of Yangon), Jeong Hye-Rin (President of Busan University of Foreign Studies), Yu Jae-Kyung (Ambassador to Myanmar of the Republic of Korea), and Won Yu-Jun (Head of Myanmar Branch of POSCO DAEWOO) were present. The traditional dance of Mynamar performed by exchange students of Busan University of Foreign Studies and a Korean song chorus by KSI Yangon branch learners were performed to celebrate the opening of the Yangon branch.

The Yangon branch is going to be operated in collaboration with Busan University of Foreign Studies, which is the only college that has a department of Myanmar language, and will provide better education services customized to the locals of Myanmar.

Meanwhile, POSCO DAEWOO (CEO: Kim Young-Sang) is a general trading company which first started its business in Myanmar in 1985. It plans to maintain its sponsorship of the Korean language & culture popularization business through the Yangon branch of KSI.

Song Hyang-Geun, Head of King Sejong Institute Foundation (KSIF), said, “The KSI Yangon Branch is going to be a base center for sharing Korean culture in Myanmar.”
