On June 29th, KSIF (President Lee Haiyoung) co-hosted a Special Lecturers session with Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (Director JUNG Sang-Won, hereinafter “KCCLA”) at Ari Hall at KCCLA in celebration of the 10th anniversary of KSIF and the 140th anniversary of Korea-U.S. diplomatic relations.
Speaking at the event was Professor David McCann from Harvard University, who has been a great contributor to the globalization of Korean literature, in particular Sijo, in the U.S. The lecture was designed to help the local audience experience the charm of Korean literature. Professor McCann talked about his life’s dedication to Sijo as well as his literary achievements, and suggested ways to make Korean literature more readily available in the U.S.
The Special Lecture given by Professor McCann was arranged as an offline/online combination event, with attendees either joining the speaker at KCCLA or online through Zoom. Anyone interested in Korean culture and literature could sign up to join the lecture through the link on KSI Center U.S.A.’s Instagram account (@king.sejong.institute_usa). Attending the lecture were approximately 20 people working in the field of Korean education, including professors and researchers of Korean studies from LA-based universities, such as UCLA, as well as members from the Korean School Association of America.
