of KSIF’s 10th Anniversary
KSIF (President Lee Haiyoung) held the second special lecture for KSIF staff on May 12, to follow 2022 KSI Vietnam Workshop, which was the first session offered last March in Vietnam to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the organization. The speaker of the second session was Bang Hyeon-Seok, a creative writing professor from Chung-Ang University, the chairman of Asia Storytelling Committee and a non-executive board member of KSIF.
This was the first in-person event since the spread of COVID-19, held in participation of the president, secretary general and the entire staff of KSIF.
In his lecture titled “Cultural Diversity and the Value of KSIF”, Professor Bang Hyeon-Seok shared his thoughts on future directions for KSIF. He explained that it is important to understand the myths and legends instilled with the value system and behavior rules of an ethnic community, in the Korean language, in order to understand everyone around the world who studies Korean in KSIF. Examples followed, including the tales of people in Central Asia, South America and Caribbean Sea, North Europe and more.
He also emphasized that their mother tongue is as equally important as our language is to us. He pointed out that KSIF must lead Korean language education from an interculturalist view, which the audience greatly sympathized with. This lecture made staff of KSIF and those associated with KSIF around the globe who try their best to spread Korean language and culture feel an immense amount of pride and self-respect. KSIF is continuing its series of special lectures with 10 speakers up until late December as part of its 10th anniversary celebration.
