Korean Language and Culture Enjoyed at “the 1st Sejong Summer Camp”

1. KSI Santiago

In Chile, on the other side of the world in the height of summer, “the 1st Sejong Summer Camp” by the King Sejong Institute was held from January 10 to 14, 2022. Anyone who has studied at KSI Santiago since its opening in 2019 could participate in their “homecoming week.” About 50 participants enjoyed the Korean language education and cultural experiences in the five-day camp program consisting of three lectures: Story of Korean culture; Travel Korean; and K-Wave Korean.

The Story of Korean Culture lecture, involved watching a KSI online culture lecture together and spending time to make things with the cultural experience tools sent by KSIF. The lecture was held face-to-face, to compensate for the two years when all classes and events were held non-face-to-face, and the satisfaction was 200%. Of course, we have strictly observed the quarantine guidelines, such as quarantine pass checks and wearing masks.

The fun and practical Korean classes divided into Travel Korean and K-Wave Korean were conducted non-face-to-face, because all the dispatched teachers are still in Korea. However, the participation and enthusiasm of the students was greater than ever. They wanted to travel to Korea right away and use the expressions they learned, and they were very excited as they immersed themselves in K-pop and Korean dramas.

Thanks to the enthusiastic responses of the participants, KSI Santiago plans to hold the camp every year. This year, in particular, by planning various participatory events, we plan to focus on continuing and expanding interest in the Korean language and culture in Chile, and vitalize the KSI community at the same time.
