On November 15, the King Sejong Institute Foundation (hereinafter KSIF, President: Lee Hai-young) signed a business agreement with the POSCO TJ Park Foundation (Chairperson: Kim Sun-uk) to support online Korean language and culture education for Asian Korean scholarship students sponsored by the POSCO TJ Park Foundation.
The POSCO TJ Park Foundation is a non-profit corporation that carries out POSCO's global social contribution activities for mutual exchange and common prosperity among Asian countries through global scholarships, academic, and cultural projects. It is creating social values through the nurturing of next-generation talents, Asia networking, and practice of sharing and engagement.
In accordance with this agreement, the KSIF provides the foreign recipients of the POSCO TJ Park Foundation with Korean language education through the online KSI (www.iksi.or.kr) before and after their arrival in Korea to help them adjust to living in Korea. It also offers them the opportunity to experience Korean culture in the future. In addition, it plans to support the recipients to take the Sejong Korean Language Assessment (SKA), the practical Korean proficiency test developed by the KSIF for foreign scholarship students to prove their Korean language skills.
Both institutions will conduct Korean language education for international scholarship students who are admitted to master’s and doctorate programs in Korea before they enter Korea. They plan to expand Korean language education to include over 200 scholarship students attending 16 universities in 10 Asian nations next year.
Lee Hai-young, president of the KSIF, explained, “Through this agreement, we are able to provide the opportunity to learn Korean online to international scholarship students who have had difficulties in learning Korean due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She added that the KSIF, as a public institution for the spreading of the Korean language and Korea culture, would do its best to support international scholarship students for their secure adjustment to Korea based on the quality educational programs.
