The King Sejong Institute Foundation (hereinafter KSIF, President: Kang Hyounhwa,) held a completion ceremony of education to improve the teaching competency of localized KSI teachers from July 19 to August 6, All teachers who completed the courses and passed the evaluation received certificates from the president.

Forty localized KSI teachers participated in the education program conducted in an 'untact' manner from July 19 to August 6. All of the teachers who completed all the courses and passed the evaluation were awarded certificates from the president of KSIF in the completion ceremony held online on August 6, and started their teaching careers in 28 KSI locations in 22 countries.

The purpose of the dispatch of local KSI educators, established and selected for the first time this year, is for the teachers to stay in the country mid- to long-term, to accumulate the know-how of Korean education, and to enhance local expertise. Considering the purpose, the education consisted of customized education curriculum for localized teachers, and focused on fostering local experts through programs such as ▲ Korean language education theory and practice ▲ Teaching method for Korean culture ▲ Understanding local culture ▲ Academic and administrative training, etc.

Meanwhile, the education course that takes into account the global spread of COVID-19 is also notable. Education for strengthening capacity to respond to infectious diseases with international cooperation was newly established in collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), to strengthen the understanding of foreign infectious diseases and abilities to respond to such crises.

Educator Lee Jun-eon (KSI Vilnius) who presented his thoughts at the completion ceremony, said, “Through this education for local KSI teachers, we were able to improve our expertise in Korean language education and understanding of the countries,” and expressed his wishes, saying “I hope that I can be an educator who can teach Korean based on the understanding of the local society and culture.”
