Dispatched teachers get vaccination priority for COVID-19

  1. 56 dispatched teachers giving online classes from Korea due to COVID-19 pandemic will be vaccinated first
  2. Face to face education with local students in a safe environment in the pandemic era

The King Sejong Institute Foundation (President: Kang Hyounhwa, hereinafter KSIF) has conducted priority vaccination for 56 dispatched teachers who are giving online classes in Korea in June. The dispatched teachers are thereby able to carry out face-to-face education with local students with their safety guaranteed overseas.

In May, KSIF had all of its 100 teachers dispatched abroad return to Korea due to the spread of COVID-19 and increase in virus variants. Since then, KSIF has consistently requested the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and KDCA (Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency) for “earlier vaccination for unavoidable overseas trips to perform a very important business activity” for public interest by dissemination and expansion of Korean language and culture to receive vaccination priority.

KSIF plans to continue vaccination for COVID-19 for teachers returning from and newly dispatched to overseas countries.

Teachers Jin I-hyun and Jin Hyun-yu who were vaccinated first remarked, “We’d like to thank KSIF for making efforts for the safety of dispatched teachers and accomplishing returns of the teachers and vaccination priority. It is a great relief to be vaccinated. We would like to overcome the pandemic as soon as possible and get back to our students without wearing masks.”

Meanwhile, the students at KSI at the Korean Cultural Center in Italy are having online classes for one year now, due to the spread of COVID-19 in Italy. The students who are communicating online with the teachers who are back in Korea wish to have lessons face to face with the teachers.

“We will do our best for the safety of dispatched teachers who are working hard amid the COVID-19 pandemic on their Korean classes for overseas students,” commented President Kang Hyounhwa of the King Sejong Institute Foundation.

Higher rate of vaccination will greatly help in achieving herd immunity.
