The King Sejong Institute Foundation (KSIF, president: Kang Hyounhwa) will promote the development and operation of an interpretation and translation curriculum, starting this year and held for three years, in line with government policy to expand exchanges and cooperation with the New Southern and New Northern regions.

In response to the growing demand for Korean cultural content and the growth of overseas expansion of Korean companies, KSIF conducted its own research targeting King Sejong Institutes (KSIs) in the New Southern and New Northern regions, where the demand for Korean interpreters and translators is steadily increasing, and planned the "KSI Korean Interpretation and Translation Process Development Project".

Specific projects such as ▲ basic model development ▲curriculum and textbook development for each language region (12 languages) and ▲teachers’ workshop for pilot operation will be promoted this year. Experts in the fields of interpretation and translation and Korean language education will participate in the project, and it will be differentiated from the existing intermediate/advanced Korean language curriculum by including the advantages of Korean language proficiency education and basic interpretation and translation competency education. As such, it will contribute to the nurturing of local interpreters and translators and serve to supplement the beginner-oriented KSI curriculum system.
