2021 Local Korean Language Teachers Training and Support Projects
The 'Local Korean Language Teacher Training Program,' which was piloted last year, was implemented in earnest this year
Cultivation of Korean language teachers who can enter the field through the introduction of an internship course at local King Sejong Institutes
The King Sejong Institute Foundation (KSIF) is carrying out a full-fledged project to cultivate and support local Korean language
teachers in order to respond to the growing demand for Korean language and culture education around the world and to create a
local language education environment.
KSIF piloted the '2020 Local Korean Language Teacher Education Program Project' to cultivate teachers in regions where Korean
language teachers are scarce and to foster local experts with expertise in the local language and culture.
Based on last year's achievements, the project is expected to be implemented in earnest from this year, and in particular, by
introducing an internship course at local KSI facilities, KSIF is planning to produce Korean language teachers who can be put to
practical use in the field. The project is scheduled to be carried out in each of the selected regions in the second half of 2021,
after selecting 14 internal and external institutes to operate the 'Local Korean Language Teacher Education Program' via a
recruitment announcement in April.
In addition, KSIF is providing support to dedicated local KSI teachers to overcome restrictions on dispatching overseas personnel
such as the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and to improve the treatment of local teachers. Among the local KSI teachers, around
140 'local dedicated teachers' will be selected through a screening process targeting teachers with certain qualifications, and
support funds will be delivered to the selected teachers.
The selected teachers will serve as ' local dedicated teachers ', and will not only teach Korean language and Korean culture at KSI,
but will also perform educational administration tasks necessary for the operation of the institute, and contribute to the
educational expertise of KSI.
