KSIF Provides Training to Additional Teachers to Be Dispatched in 1H of 2021

3-week training in Korea for teachers to be sent abroad to enhance their ability to teach the Korean language and culture
A major increase in the number of courses on Korean culture using the KSI Operator Cultural Training Program

The King Sejong Institute Foundation (KSIF) is providing training to teachers set to be sent to various overseas King Sejong Institute (KSI) locations to enhance their teaching ability. The training, which kicked off on March 22, is set to be completed on April 11.

The 26 individuals who were newly recruited as KSI teachers will be sent to 17 KSI locations in 14 countries. They are currently receiving theoretical education and practical training on teaching the Korean language and culture based on KSIF’s program designed to strengthen the expertise and professionality of Korean language teachers. The contents of the training include academic management and administration necessary for the KSI operation, Korean language pedagogy and practice, and methods of teaching Korean culture.

The training particularly focuses on building the capacity to teach online to better prepare the teachers for the recent transition to online learning due to COVID-19. The teachers themselves are currently studying the theories of Korean language education and practicing teaching a class on the online videoconferencing platform, Zoom.

KSIF has also increased the number of Korean culture courses to meet the growing demand of KSI learners. The Cultural Training Program for KSI Operators developed last year is being used to present the theories of culture and teaching methods.

Staff Kim Dongju from KSIF who took part in this project said, “The global community is even more eager to learn the Korean language and culture, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. [...] KSIF will spare no efforts to help Korean teachers improve their professional expertise.”
