KSIF Holds Online Workshop for KSI
Teachers in English-speaking Regions on
Translation and Interpretation Curriculum

The King Sejong Institute Foundation (Acting President and Secretary General Choi Hyun-seung, hereafter referred to as KSIF), in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Chae Hwi-young), held an online workshop for KSI teachers in English-speaking regions from September 14 to 16. The workshop was conducted online to enable participation from Korean language teachers across English-speaking countries worldwide and was also broadcast live on KSIF’s official YouTube channel (youtube.com/LearnTeachKorean).

With the recent rise of the Korean Wave and the continued global expansion of Korean companies, the demand for professional Korean translation and interpretation specialists abroad has been steadily increasing. In response to this trend, KSIF organized this workshop to enhance the professionalism of Korean language education and strengthen teachers’ competencies. Earlier in June, KSIF successfully held an in-person workshop for 268 Korean language teachers from KSIs and local universities in Vietnam, which received highly positive feedback.

Approximately 160 Korean language teachers from KSIs in English-speaking regions—including the United States, Saudi Arabia, India, Canada, the Philippines, and Australia—participated in the workshop after pre-registration. The program focused on practical content, including the significance of translation and interpretation courses, effective textbook utilization, ethics and evaluation in AI-based translation and interpretation, and group discussions on classroom management strategies.

KSIF Secretary General Choi Hyun-seung stated, “We expect this workshop will greatly contribute to enhancing the practical teaching competencies of KSI Korean language teachers in translation and interpretation. Going forward, KSIF will continue to play a leading role in providing specialized Korean language education tailored to diverse learning purposes, including translation and interpretation, in response to global demand.”
