KSIF Successfully Concludes
the 2025 KSI Workshop in North America

The King Sejong Institute Foundation (Acting President and Secretary General Choi Hyun-seung, hereafter referred
to as KSIF) successfully concluded the 2025 KSI Workshop in North America, held over three days from June 11 to
13 in Los Angeles, U.S.A. Co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and KSIF, and jointly
organized by the KSI Center, U.S.A. and the KSI Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles, the workshop brought
together more than 40 participants—including directors and teachers—from 13 KSIs across the United States and
Canada.

The 2025 KSI Workshop in North America focused on exploring effective ways to incorporate the widely popular
Hallyu content into Korean language education in the region, as well as identifying strategies for improving the
overall operation of KSIs. The workshop also included hands-on training programs aimed at enhancing the
administrative capabilities of KSI staff and the teaching skills of Korean language instructors.
On the first day of the workshop, Kim Young-wan, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Los Angeles,
delivered congratulatory remarks during the opening ceremony, stating, “It is a source of great pride that KSIs
have established themselves as a leading brand for promoting Korean language and culture throughout North
America.” Following this, Ahn Hyeong-mi, Director of the KSI Center, U.S.A., shared an overview of the current
operations of KSIs in North America and discussed the direction of the KSI Center, U.S.A.

On the second day, training sessions were held to strengthen the professional capacity of KSI Operation Staff
and Korean language teachers. In a special expert lecture, Park Byeong-ho, Director of the Korea Creative
Content Agency LA Business Center, presented strategies for Korean language education using globally competitive
Hallyu content under the theme “K-Content and Korean Language Education.” This was followed by a lecture from
Jeon Seon-gyeong, Korean language lecturer in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at UCLA, who
received a highly positive response for her presentation on the “Role and Direction of KSIs in North America,”
in which she introduced strategies for designing Korean language classes tailored to the diverse goals of
learners.

Workshop participants shared their thoughts, saying, “It was incredibly valuable to learn about the diverse
teaching methods and operational strategies being implemented at 13 different KSIs across the U.S.A. and Canada,
each tailored to their unique environments. We plan to adopt some of these best practices in our own KSI
operations.”

of KSI directors and teachers in North America,” and added, “We expect KSIs to play an even greater role in
helping Korean language and culture take deeper root in North America, a region where diverse languages and
cultures coexist.”
